Convert AU to SPX (Speex)

FLV MP3 Converter converts AU to SPX (Speex) easily and quickly. Speex is an Open Source/Free codec patent-free audio compression format designed for speech. The Speex codec aims to lower the barrier of entry for voice applications by providing a free alternative to expensive proprietary speech codecs. Moreover, Speex is well-adapted to Internet applications and provides useful features that are not present in most other codecs.

FLV MP3 Converter is also a professional audio conversion software. The software supports almost any video and audio formats such as M4R (iPhone ringtone), MPA, MP2, M4A (MPEG-4 audio), DTS, MP3, ALAC (Apple Lossless), AAC for iPod/iPhone/iPad/iTunes/DSi, CAF (Core Audio Format), AC3, etc. It could convert WMA to AAC for iPod/iPhone/iPad/iTunes/DSi, QCP to WMA, SHN to MP3, APE to MPA, TS to MMF, FLAC to M4B (MPEG-4 audiobook), MOV to SPX, TS to MP2, and so on.

FLV MP3 Converter supports batch conversion and, is full compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Vista and Windows 7.

AU to SPX Software is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, 2008, 2003, and 2000

What is AU?
The Au file format is a simple audio file format introduced by Sun Microsystems. The format was common on NeXT systems and on early web pages. Originally it was headerless, being simply 8-bit u-law encoded data at an 8000 Hz sample rate. Hardware from other vendors often used sample rates as high as 8192 Hz, often integer factors of video clock signals. Newer files have a header that consists of six 32-bit words, an optional information chunk and then the data (in big endian format). Although the format now supports many audio encoding formats, it remains associated with the u-law logarithmic encoding. This encoding was native to the SPARCstation 1 hardware, where SunOS exposed the encoding to apps through the /dev/audio interface. This encoding and interface became a de facto standard for Unix sound.

SpeexWhat is SPX?
Speex is a patent-free audio compression format designed for speech and also a free software speech codec that may be used on VoIP applications and podcasts. It is based on the CELP speech coding algorithm. Speex claims to be free of any patent restrictions and is licensed under the revised (3-clause) BSD license. It may be used with the Ogg container format or directly transmitted over UDP/RTP. The Speex designers see their project as complementary to the Vorbis general-purpose audio compression project. Speex is a lossy format, meaning quality is permanently degraded to reduce file size. Speex is based on CELP and is designed to compress voice at bitrates ranging from 2 to 44 kbps. Some of Speex's features include:

  • Narrowband (8 kHz), wideband (16 kHz), and ultra-wideband (32 kHz) compression in the same bitstream
  • Intensity stereo encoding
  • Packet loss concealment
  • Variable bitrate operation (VBR)
  • Voice Activity Detection (VAD)
  • Discontinuous Transmission (DTX)
  • Fixed-point port
  • Acoustic echo canceller
  • Noise suppression

Note that Speex has a number of features that are not present in other codecs, such as intensity stereo encoding, integration of multiple sampling rates in the same bitstream (embedded coding), and a VBR mode.
